Armenia and Azerbaijan held peace talks last year after Azerbaijan liberated Karabakh and its surrounding provinces, which were under Armenia’s occupation for approximately 30 years. The last statement regarding the tense talks came from Armenian President Haaturyan.

16 ARTICLES ARE EXPECTED TO BE SIGNEDPresident Haaturyan said that Yerevan hopes that Azerbaijan will sign 16 articles of the peace agreement before the COP29 Climate Change Conference, which will be hosted by the Baku on November 11-22. Speaking on the sidelines of the Hamburg Sustainability Conference he attended, Haaturyan said, “If it were just us, we could sign it right now. However, we hope to reach this point sooner or later.” Armenian President Haaturyan added that there are some items that are in the negotiation phase with Azerbaijani officials.

Azerbaijan states that there should be no clause for reunification with Karabakh before Armenia signs the peace agreement. As a part of the peace process, Armenia withdrew from some villages belonging to Azerbaijan, which it had occupied since the early 1990s.
