Currently, in the IKN Construction Worker Residential (HPK) area, 20 MSME outlets have been established which are quite busy with construction workers and IKN office staff visiting to eat or just unwind. “There are 20 (MSME) stalls that have been opened and active. In March we plan to open an additional 20 MSME stalls,” said Jaka in the capital city of the archipelago, Tuesday (13/2/2024).

The row of MSME outlets located in the HPK canteen was observed to be the most visited during break times. Many construction workers or IKN office staff come to the MSME outlet for lunch.

Jaka explained that providing a canteen consisting of many MSME food outlets was one of OIKN’s efforts to empower MSMEs in the IKN area. Developing MSMEs as OIKN Partners is one of the authority’s agendas to encourage business sustainability in the IKN area.

“So that people who move here (IKN) can live in a complete city community, in the sense that an ecosystem already exists for schools, hospitals, socio-cultural infrastructure and others,” said Jaka.

Dina, one of the sellers at the MSME outlet, admitted that at night the MSME outlet was still busy with workers. Some MSMEs are open from 06.00 WITA to 00.00 WITA.

In an average day, Dina can pocket a turnover of IDR 3 million – IDR 5 million, depending on whether the canteen is busy or not. “It’s usually busy at night, there are lots of workers hang out here (canteen),” he said.
