REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MATARAM — The General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) of Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara Province, held a socialization activity on monitoring fake news or hoax as well as negative issues during the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).

This socialization activity was attended by more than 50 participants from media elements and other related parties which was opened directly by the Coordinator of the Legal, Prevention, Community Participation and Public Relations Division of Mataram City Bawaslu Efendi in Mataram, Monday (20/11/2023).

Efendi said media involvement in monitoring functions during elections could help create a clean, healthy and democratic political environment.

“Therefore, we are carrying out this activity to jointly equalize understanding so that all processes and stages of the 2024 Election run smoothly and well,” he said.

Thus, through the socialization activities of Bawaslu Regulation Number 11/2023 concerning Supervision of General Election Campaigns in the 2024 Election regarding Supervision of Fake News/Hoaxes and Negative Issues, we can realize the Common Goal, namely Elections with Integrity.

Therefore, Efendi invites the media and the public to work together to safeguard and supervise elections in order to create elections that are clean, fair, honest and have integrity.

“Together with the people, supervise the election and together with Bawaslu uphold election justice,” he concluded.

This socialization activity presented three resource persons consisting of representatives from journalist organizations, namely from PWI NTB, the chief editor of one of the local media, and academics from the Faculty of Islamic Religion, Muhammadiyah University of Mataram Fathulrrijal.

On that occasion, Fathulrrijal conveyed a strategy to counter the wave of fake news and negative issues at the election campaign stage in the digital era.

The current rise of social media, he said, makes it easy for people to spread the word hoax on a wide scale every day with the aim of disrupting social harmony.

“While the spread is increasing hoax When elections become a serious problem in the practice of democracy in Indonesia. “Because of this, the media has an important role in monitoring and conveying real election information to the public,” he said.
