Kolkata . Calcutta High Court Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam on Thursday said there is no sympathy for Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sheikh Shahjahan.

Sheikh Shahjahan was arrested 55 days after the attack on ED and CAPF personnel in Sandeshkhali.

He made the remarks when Sheikh Shahjahan’s lawyer drew the attention of the division bench of Justice Shivagananam and Justice Hiranmoy Bhattacharya regarding the arrest of his client and wanted to make a submission in the matter.

However, the Chief Justice refused to listen to any arguments of Shahjahan’s lawyer. The arguments in the case will be heard on March 4, which is the next hearing in the Sandeshkhali case. The case was initiated on the suo motu cognizance of the High Court.

“For the next 10 years you have to be very engaged with your clients,” he said. You will have to appoint four-five juniors. The court has no sympathy for Sheikh Shahjahan.

According to reports, Sheikh Shahjahan was sent to police custody for 10 days by the Basirhat Subdivision Court of North 24 Parganas district on Thursday morning.

Sheikh Shahjahan has been charged under several non-bailable sections of the IPC. The government lawyer also described him as a very influential person.

The police, in a report submitted to the district court, have identified Shahjahan as the mastermind behind the attack on ED and CPAF officials on January 5.

The government lawyer even said that if by chance he is released on bail, he will make every possible effort to intimidate the witnesses and tamper with the evidence against him.
