Denies Accusations of Extortion, Firli Bahuri Will Not Resign from KPK

JAKARTA, BALIPOST.com – The chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Firli Bahuri, has denied accusations of extortion against the former Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL). In fact, he called the accusation a counterattack from corruptors. For this reason, he stated that he would not step down in the alleged extortion case against former Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL).

“This country needs the best dedication of all the nation’s children and all law enforcers not to back down in the face of evil, especially in the face of counterattacks by corruptors,” said Firli to journalists at the KPK’s Red and White House, quoted by the Antara news agency, Monday (20/ 11).

The task of ridding the country of all forms of corruption is not an easy matter and will definitely meet resistance from corruptors. “That is how difficult my position is when facing a counterattack by corruptors, especially when it is faced bravely and tirelessly, never giving up to rid this country of corrupt practices and there will definitely be resistance from the corruptors,” he said.

Meanwhile, Firli Bahuri today answered a summons from the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas) to provide information regarding his meeting with former Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL).

Firli was reported to the KPK Council because a photo of him and Syahrul Yasin Limpo were circulating on a sports field. The basis for the report is the KPK Council Regulation Number 3 of 2021 which contains a prohibition on every KPK member from meeting with litigants at anti-corruption institutions.

However, Firli then gave a statement that the photo with Syahrul Yasin Limpo was taken before the former Minister of Agriculture went to court at the KPK. (Kmb/Balipost)
