The Capital Homicide Police Station (DHC) arrested six men linked to the Puro Bicho football group, accused of involvement in the death of delivery driver Ryan do Nascimento da Silva Santos, aged 18. The crime took place in January 2023, in the north of Rio de Janeiro, in a confrontation between rival groups of batsmen. The victim was hit in front of the cafeteria where he worked, and was shot by the criminals.

The investigations indicate that the rivalry between the football groups, including the Turma Beira-Rio, of which the victim was part, motivated the attack that resulted in the death of Ryan do Nascimento. In addition to the murder of the delivery man, the group arrested in this operation is suspected of being involved in other murders arising from conflicts between football groups. The groups, traditional in Rio de Janeiro, are known for their themed and colorful costumes, as well as the sticks tied to rubber balls that they carry.

The bat-bolas, declared Carioca Cultural Heritage of Intangible Nature in 2012, parade in blocks through the city and have a long tradition in the region. This episode of violence between the groups highlights the complexity and tension that exists in this carnival scenario, where rivalries can result in tragedies like the one that killed the young delivery man. The arrest of the suspects represents progress in investigations and the search for justice in the face of these conflicts.
