Filippo Turetta, extradition “in ten days”. The Naumburg court: “The request from the general prosecutor’s office has not yet arrived”

The request from the German Attorney General’s Office on the case of Filippo Turetta. “At the moment the time required for the arrival of a relevant request from the Attorney General’s Office and for the further procedure cannot be communicated”, simply confirms a note that was distributed to journalists by the spokesperson of theOberlandesgericht of Naumburg, the higher regional court.

In the note, the court also briefly reconstructs the moments of Filippo Turetta’s arrest. “On the evening of November 18, an Italian citizen was stopped on the A9 federal highway near Bad Durrenberg on the basis of a European arrest order on suspicion of a murder committed in Italy.” The ex-boyfriend of Giulia Cecchettinit is added, “is in the Halle penal institution on the basis of a detention order from the competent Court of First Instance”.

The prosecutor of Venice: 10 days for extradition

Turetta spent the first night in Halle prison (Saale) and is assisted by the German lawyer Dimitar Krassa. During yesterday’s hearing to validate the arrest on a European warrant, the 22-year-old said he was in favor of extradition to Italy.

Filippo Turetta’s acceptance to return to Italy is an “aspect that accelerates, within about ten days, the possibility of arranging” for his extradition, explained the chief prosecutor of Venice, Bruno Cherchi. “Already yesterday – stated the magistrate – contacts have been initiated with the German judiciary, the timing of Filippo Turetta’s extradition depends on them, but they are very collaborative”.
