Firli Confesses to Become the Target of Corruptors’ Counterattack, This is the Metro Police’s Response

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Polda Metro Jaya is reluctant to respond to the outpouring of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Firli Bahuri regarding the legal process he is undergoing. Firli, who is currently a retired National Police officer with the rank of Commissioner General, felt strange when he was questioned at Bareskrim Polri regarding the alleged extortion case of former Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL).

“Maybe you can just ask the person concerned (Firli), that’s his statement,” said the Director of Special Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Ade Safri Simanjuntak to the media crew, Monday (20/11/2023).

In fact, said Ade Safri, Firli himself asked to be questioned at the Police Criminal Investigation Unit. Meanwhile, he was actually scheduled to be summoned for questioning as a witness in this case at Polda Metro Jaya, not at Bareskrim Polri.

It was recorded that Firli twice requested that an examination of him be carried out at the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit. Apart from that, Ade also did not want to respond to Firli’s statement, which admitted that he had received resistance from corruptors.

Ade only said emphatically that the legal process that Firli underwent from inquiry to investigation was carried out professionally. He also ensured that Polda Metro Jaya investigators carried out their duties well.

“We guarantee that investigators are professional, transparent and accountable in carrying out their investigative duties,” stressed Ade Safri.

Firli Bahuri admitted that he had served the Police for 40 years. However, currently he feels estranged from the National Police Headquarters. Firli conveyed this statement after he underwent examination as a witness for the second time. After the examination, Firli tried to avoid and even hide from the media crew who wanted to ask for his statement.

“Yesterday, November 16 2023, was the day I dedicated myself to the country for 40 years,” said Firli at the KPK’s Red and White Building.

Previously, Firli Bahuri finished undergoing examination as a witness in the alleged extortion case against Syahrul Yasin Limpo, Thursday (16/11/2023) at around 13.36 WIB. However, Firli left the National Police Headquarters secretly to avoid the media crew who had been waiting for him since morning.

It is suspected that Firli Bahuri left the examination room at Bareskrim Polri via the Ruptama Building at Police Headquarters to trick the media crew. Even before Firli left the Rupatama Building and got into a black car with the number plate B 1917 TJQ, a number of people suspected of being his aides monitored the journalist’s movements.

A number of media crew tried to capture the moment someone suspected of being Firli Bahuri was sitting on the right side of the passenger seat. The man wearing a batik shirt appeared to be covering his face with a bag. Several people in the car also tried to prevent the media crew from taking pictures.
