Ho Chi Minh City continuously appears ‘death holes’

TPO – After continuous heavy rain on the afternoon of October 8 and 9, Ho Chi Minh City continuously appeared two deep holes on the road in District 11 and City. Thu Duc.

Late on the afternoon of October 9, the authorities were still blocking part of Au Co Street (the section of District 11 bordering Tan Binh District) to fix the problem of subsidence and deep holes.

Before that, in the early afternoon of October 9, the Ho Chi Minh City area had heavy rain. At around 3:00 p.m. on the same day, the road surface in front of house number 27Q Au Co (Ward 14, District 11) suddenly collapsed, creating a deep hole, endangering traffic participants. The incident was quickly reported to the authorities.

Upon receiving the news, local authorities and related units blocked the area around the deep hole to avoid causing danger to traffic participants and arranged forces to monitor and regulate traffic through the area.

Recorded at the scene showed that the hole was more than 1 meter in diameter and nearly 2 meters deep, with a wide opening on both sides. Below the deep hole, water was flowing strongly. On the surface of the hole and around the hole, the asphalt surface was sunken and had widespread cracks. The area where the deep hole appeared is located near a drainage manhole.

According to a worker present at the scene to fix the problem, the cause of the deep hole may be that the underground water pipe below has been broken for a long time, leaking water and washing away the surrounding soil and rock layers, leading to a collapse. Road surface subsidence creates deep holes.

Ho Chi Minh City Urban Drainage One Member LLC said that the unit is mobilizing vehicles and materials to repair and fix the above problem. However, in order not to cause difficulties for traffic participants, the repair of the deep hole will take place at 7:00 p.m. the same day, to avoid traffic congestion in the area.

Previously, after heavy rain yesterday afternoon (October 8), at the intersection of Road No. 5 and Road No. 1, Tang Nhon Phu B Ward, Thu Duc City, a sinkhole appeared, creating a deep hole.
