Journalists of the Catastrophe of the Century published a book: Between fear and hope…

The book titled ‘Shaking’, which contains the memories of journalists who went to the region after the earthquakes that occurred in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023, took its place on the shelves. The book titled ‘The Disaster of the Century from the Pens of Newsmakers’ was presented to its readers by the Turkish News Cameramen Association and with the contributions of the Social Development and Solidarity Association (SGDD-ASAM).

Journalists who contributed to the book were given plaques at a ceremony held at Atlas Cinema. The night started with the screening of the promotional film of the book and plaques were given to 77 journalists.

Beyoğlu Mayor Haydar Ali Yıldız and Turkish News Cameramen Association President Aytekin Polatel also attended the ceremony.

“THERE SHOULD BE MOTIVATION ABOUT HOPE ON THE LINE BETWEEN FEAR AND HOPE”

Beyoğlu Mayor Haydar Ali Yıldız said, “The time, pain and losses between the fear we experienced on the night of February 6 and our feelings of looking to the future with hope today. You know, painters are asked, can you draw a picture of happiness? Is there a pen that can draw neither the pain nor the picture of February 6?” “I wonder? I believe that this great disaster, which we described as the disaster of the century that we experienced on February 6, should be an important motivation for us mayors to do many things, not just something about hope, on the line between fear and hope,” he said.

“MY COLLEAGUES WERE EARTHQUAKE AND REPORTERS AT THE SAME TIME”

Aytekin Polatel, President of the Turkish News Cameramen Association, said, “My colleagues, who did their jobs under difficult conditions, were also earthquake victims and reporters. They took responsibility by saying that we are human beings first. They transferred their experiences to a book that is unique in the world. They made a note in history with this book. We are in a world where there are thousands of moving faults.” “While we live in this geography, the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes are a book that should guide us through field experiences and other earthquakes that we do not want but expect in the coming period,” he said.
