Lee Ting Han, chairman of the Johor Investment, Commerce, Consumer Affairs and Human Resources Committee, revealed that currently 35 to 36 companies have applied to the Johor government to build a data center.
He described that Johor has become a hub for global data centers and has successfully attracted 20 data centers to Johor in the past three years.
“Ten of them are already in operation and 7 or 8 more are under construction.”
After attending the “Sunbeam Splash 2.0” event co-organized by UTAR Johor Branch and UTAR Alumni Association this morning, he held a press conference to reveal more details.

Attracting data center ecosystem investments
Li Tinghan believes that this is only the first phased data center project, and the development wave of digital center hubs will continue to extend to 2027.
“Starting next year, we will focus on soliciting investment in the data center ecosystem, such as cooling systems, raw materials, racks, printed circuit boards (PCBs), as well as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and massive data.”
He pointed out that the first phase is to complete the infrastructure construction, and then enter another phase to attract data center-related industrial chains such as raw material supply, technical support, etc. to enter Johor, and then move forward to attract artificial intelligence (AI), huge amounts of data, High technologies such as cloud computing.
He emphasized that the above is a long-term and time-consuming development plan and strategy. In the short-term goals of the first phase, we will build a complete infrastructure to maximize coverage, and then actively promote more supporting industry chains.
At the same time, he also said that the state government will work with local companies to plan and promote skills training to further promote the integration of industry and academia to support the development of the digital industry.
