Chandigarh/Dharani- In the 37th Surajkund International Crafts Fair being organized in Faridabad district of Haryana, stall number-1066, craftsman Pankaj Kumar from Orissa has become the center of attention through his art. The reason is the various items made by carving silver on their stall. Orissa’s artisan Pankaj Kumar Shahu has been honored with the National Award by President Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma in the year 1995. Pankaj Kumar, who received the National Award, became disabled in an accident.
After this he made his disability his courage and strength. Pankaj started honing his skills through filigree silver art with one hand. He was awarded with honors like Kalashree and Vishwakarma Guru Award from the Prime Minister. By giving a new shape to the skill, he took the silver tarkasi art to every corner of the country and gave a new identity to this art. Pankaj Kumar Shahu has been made a member of Orissa Handloom and Handicraft Promotion Council. Craftsman Pankaj Kumar told that he buys silver biscuits and melts them. Then the design is prepared by molding it. The products made by him like ear rings, necklaces, pendants, decorative items, Krishna-Arjun chariot, boats, earrings, God’s crown etc. are available at his stall.
