Proposal to build a tunnel through the mountainous area of Highway 7

TPO – Faced with the situation of Vuc Bong mountain strait (Con Cuong district, Nghe An) frequently having landslides, rocks and trees falling onto the road, causing danger to traffic participants, the local government has proposed building an underground tunnel. through the mountains.

In recent times, the area of Vuc Bong mountain has frequently had rock landslides and trees falling onto Highway 7, causing fear among passersby. It is known that Vuc Bong Strait is located on Highway 7, passing through Bong Khe commune, Con Cuong district (Nghe An). This is an important national highway connecting Vinh city and National Highway 1A to Con Cuong district and Nam Can international border gate.

Most recently, at 1:00 a.m. on September 23, an ancient tree growing on a rock pile about 10 meters high suddenly uprooted and fell onto the road. Many large rocks on the mountain also collapsed. Luckily there was no traffic at the time of the incident so no one was injured.

Previously, on the afternoon of September 19, a large tree branch on the mountain suddenly broke and hit a motorbike on the road. Luckily, the incident only left two motorcyclists scratched. However, the motorbike was seriously damaged.

The tree fell on a motorbike on the road, causing two people to suffer scratches.

Sharing about the cause of frequent landslides at Vuc Bong mountain, Con Cuong district leaders commented that on the mountain there are many large trees growing on cliffs. When the tree is big and the branches stretch out and encounter the rain, the wind will have difficulty clinging to it, leading to it falling down. The rocks on the mountain have since followed the trees down onto the road.

After the incident, Con Cuong district directed the functional unit to handle it by cutting the entire system of large trees above the cliff. However, this is only a temporary solution because there are still many large trees on the mountain.

In the long term, Con Cuong district has proposed building a tunnel through the Vuc Bong mountain strait. This is also the wish of people traveling on Highway 7. Accordingly, Con Cuong district is currently preparing a draft report to send to the traffic industry to propose a project: Tunnel through the mountain on Highway 7 through the Vuc Strait. Bong, Bong Khe commune, Con Cuong district. The tunnel is planned to be about 350m long and 25m wide.

On the cliff, there are still many large trees clinging to the cliff, posing a potential risk of landslides and loss of safety.

Highway 7 through Vuc Bong mountain has a narrow surface with only 2 lanes passing through. One side is the cliff, the other side is the edge of the river bank. On the side of the mountain are steep cliffs, above which are many tall trees. This road also has many narrow turns and winding mountain slopes, posing a high risk of traffic accidents.

Therefore, building a tunnel through Vuc Bong mountain strait can completely solve the landslide problem, ensuring safety for vehicles passing through this place.
