They stole Rs 5.50 lakh in cash, gold and silver jewellery, watches etc. from the house of an elderly cloth merchant living in Shraddha Society, Sumul Dairy Road, Surat and escaped after stealing property worth Rs 6.88 lakh.

According to information received from police sources, 70-year-old textile businessman Bharatkumar Ramanlal Khambati, living in Shraddha Society Bungalow No. 16, Sumulderi Road, Surat, had gone to live in his second house in Daman with his wife Ranjanben on the 15th. While his son Abhishek had gone to Mathura with his family.

Meanwhile, at 3.10 last night, when he was sleeping, he received a notification on his mobile phone that someone was roaming in the hall of his house in Surat. He checked the CCTV footage. When I looked in the hall, I saw two people walking around with handkerchiefs tied on their faces. Therefore, he called his brother Praveen Chandra, who lives in the neighboring bungalow number 14, and informed him about a thief breaking into the house. He woke up his son Parimal and the people nearby. Informed the society and police. When the police came and accompanied them to the bungalow, both the thieves ran away.

When Bharat Kumar came to Surat from Daman and looked into the bungalow, the back kitchen window and the screws of the iron grill on the side were open. The household items were scattered and the cupboard locks were broken. The thieves took away Rs 4.50 lakh in cash and 15 to 17 pairs of anklet bracelets. A silver anklet worth Rs 75 thousand, cash worth Rs 1 lakh, a gold bracelet worth Rs 45 thousand and a watch worth Rs 18 thousand were stolen from the cupboard of the neighbour’s son’s room. The thieves entered the house at 1.31 am and left at 3.10 am. A complaint was lodged at Katargam police station. Further investigation is being conducted by PSI VN Singarakhiya.
