The meeting was attended, according to the ministry’s statement on Monday, by the leadership of the Ministry of Transport and the president and leaders of the National Tunnels Authority and the National Railways Authority of Egypt.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister of Transport praised the fruitful cooperation between the two sides in implementing a number of joint projects, as the bank is financing a number of projects within the framework agreement for infrastructure, such as the rehabilitation of the Raml tram in Alexandria, the Abu Qir Metro project in Alexandria, and the rehabilitation of the first and second lines of the metro.

He added that there is also cooperation in a number of railway projects, such as (development of signaling and communications systems and railway renewals for the Tanta/Mansoura/Damietta line, as the project includes duplication of the railway from Mansoura/Damietta).

A project to purchase 14 different types of machines and 12 winch motors was also discussed, which is being studied financially, and a review of the projects proposed to be implemented during the coming period between the two sides within the framework of the NWFE partnership agreement signed with the Ministry of Transport at the COP 27 climate conference.

The Ministry of Transport, the European Investment Bank and the Ministry of International Cooperation agreed to begin preparing for the following projects within the framework of the sustainable transport axis, which is the project to extend the first line of the metro to Shibin al-Qanater, and the project to extend the project to develop the Abu Qir railway line in Alexandria and convert it into an electric metro (Alexandria Metro). And the construction of the railway line (Al-Rubiki – 10th of Ramadan – Belbeis), in addition to developing the line (Sherbin / Qalin / Kafr El-Sheikh / Damanhour).
