Mexico City.- The Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico said that she remains aware of the hijacking of a cargo ship, where there are two Mexicans on board, by Houthi rebels in the waters of the Red Sea.

Through a statement, the SRE added that it was informed that of the crew of 25 people that make up the ship, two are of Mexican nationality.

“Since this unfortunate fact became known, the Embassy of Mexico has taken steps through diplomatic channels to corroborate the situation of the crew and has had communication with representatives of the Embassies of other countries involved to obtain information and carry out procedures. that lead to the release of the crew members who are on said vessel,” the agency wrote in the statement.

The ship was captured on Sunday by Yemen’s Houthi rebels for its ties to Israel, in retaliation for the war against Hamas.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indicated that the ship belongs to a British company and was operated by a Japanese group. He also indicated that the crew is made up of 25 members of various nationalities, including Ukrainians, Bulgarians, Filipinos and Mexicans.
