Why do scammers ask you to make an appointment at a clinic?

Fraudsters began calling and introducing themselves as employees of clinics. Human rights activist and retired judge Vladimir Konsolev told aif.ru that such actions have one goal – to find out the personal data of citizens.

The government services portal certainly makes our life much easier, the expert noted. You can make an appointment with a doctor and receive services from the Federal Tax Service or an extract from the Unified State Register. But at the same time, the most complete package of citizens’ documents is stored there, and attackers are trying with all their might to get to them.

“Fraudsters call people who often seek medical help and pretend to be employees of clinics,” the expert explained. “They say that you supposedly need to reschedule, clarify or confirm your appointment, and recommend making an appointment. To do this, a person is asked to dictate personal data, provide a code from an SMS, and with the help of these actions they gain access to their personal account on State Services. We also receive calls about replacing the compulsory medical insurance or SNILS policy.”

But thanks to data from the government services portal, attackers can, for example, receive microloans in someone else’s name. To avoid such a scenario, remember that you cannot provide personal data over the phone to anyone: neither a bank, nor clinics, nor insurance companies, nor the Central Bank or “investigators,” Konsolev noted.
