The La Proveeduría supermarket branch in Colonia Caroya woke up with its doors closed on Monday and this caused astonishment among its customers.
According to the local media El Despertador, the employees already knew about the situation and there was speculation that some of them could go to work at another branch in Jesús María. However, no one confirmed the news.
Meanwhile, Jesús María Noticias (JMN) published on its website that the firm is owned by the Single Mutual Association of Workers of Rental Buildings and Horizontal Property of the Argentine Republic and that from there no one has publicly expressed whether the closure is definitive. or not.
The truth is that at the entrance to the business premises the sign “branch closed” is displayed. Many customers tried to enter the San Martín Avenue location, since the employees were still working inside, but they found the doors locked.
The employees are under the union framework of the Union of Workers of Sports and Civil Entities (UTEDYC) Córdoba Norte Section, which is aware of the situation. The JMN media outlet contacted the union leader, Mario Pérez, who preferred not to provide statements until he had a complete overview of the situation.
Some of the employees belonged to Súper Uno, the firm that was in charge of the business and that in November 2018 decided to close its doors. In 2019, Mutual took over those employees and continued operating under the new name.
In January 2022 there were six layoffs and the situation once again generated tension. Already at that time there was talk of low sales and a restructuring that included reducing staff.
Last Thursday, the union delegates arrived in Colonia Caroya, but were not able to meet with the supermarket administrators, published local journalist Ariel Roggio.
