Admiral Yi Sun-sin in a gambling game?… Asan Mayor: “We cannot tolerate this” and the National Security Commission also “takes strict action”

The Korea Communications Standards Commission announced on the 15th that it would take strict action against online gambling games featuring Admiral Yi Sun-sin.

This is due to the distribution of ‘Yi Sun Shin’, an online slot machine game based on Admiral Yi Sun-sin. The online slot machine game ‘Yi Sun Shin’ is posted on the Korean website of British game company ‘Pragmatic Play’. A preview game is available in the demo version.

However, problems were raised because South Korea’s hero Yi Sun-sin was used in a gambling game. It has been pointed out that the appearance of a character wearing Chinese-style armor and a turtle ship together could spread incorrect information to users around the world.

First, the National Security Commission requested self-regulation from related businesses such as YouTube so that proactive measures can be taken in cases where videos introducing or promoting slot machine games featuring Admiral Yi Sun-sin may violate its guidelines.

In addition, we plan to actively review to prevent the spread of the game, including focusing on monitoring illegal gambling sites that use the game, so that corrective action can be taken.

The National Defense Commission emphasized, “All gambling sites distributed without legal permission are illegal regardless of the type or method,” and added, “We will take swift action to prevent Admiral Yi Sun-sin from being used on such illegal gambling sites.”

Previously, the city of Asan, South Chungcheong Province, announced that it would formally protest against the game company over the distribution of foreign slot machine games based on Admiral Yi Sun-sin on domestic gambling sites.

At the weekly executive meeting held on this day, Asan Mayor Park Kyung-gwi said, “Asan City is a city that prepares for the Yi Sun-sin Festival and creates content to promote it, such as the production of webtoons. We cannot tolerate the creation of a gambling game that disparages and dishonors the general like this.” He lamented.

In the game, Admiral Yi Sun-sin wears Chinese-style armor and when he wins game money, he says, “Victory is mine. He is conducting commands in Korean, such as “Ready to fire” and “For the sake of the fatherland, Yi Sun-sin has returned.”

In response, Mayor Park pointed out, “Online gambling is absolutely illegal in our country.”

At the same time, he criticized, “It makes no sense for Admiral Yi Sun-sin to lead gambling while wearing Chinese-style armor,” and “They used only the general’s reputation to create a provocative gambling game.”

Asan City is the area where Admiral Yi Sun-sin practiced martial arts after his marriage, and Hyeonchungsa Temple is located here to promote the general’s spirit and feat. In particular, since 1961, the Yi Sun-sin Festival has been held around April 28, Chungmugong’s birthday, to promote the spirit of Chungmugong and to inherit his great achievements.
