In 2024, Xinjiang will accelerate the construction of a modern infrastructure system. Among the “ten networks” proposed in the autonomous region government work report, intensive and convenient underground pipe networks are among them.

Compared with other obvious “networks” such as road networks and railway networks, underground pipe networks are not easily noticed due to their characteristics of being buried deep underground. In 2021, Xinjiang took the lead in piloting the implementation of a census of urban underground infrastructure in six cities: Urumqi, Karamay, Turpan, Hami, Kuitun, and Aksu, focusing on municipal roads and streets, including rapid roads, main roads, secondary roads, branch roads, passages and other public areas, and conduct a census of underground municipal infrastructure such as urban water supply, drainage, gas, heat, electricity, communications, and civil air defense projects.
