City Hall summons inspectors after report from Brazil

The City of São Paulo called on the 175 approved in the municipality’s posture inspector competition. The call comes after a report from the Brazil in fact show that the management had announced on its official website, on March 25, that the new employees would be “undergoing training to improve their knowledge of the legislation and the inspection system”. The call was published in the Official Gazette on Friday (12).

Before the call, those approved reported that no one had been called for the training published by the city hall, information later confirmed by the Union of Municipal Tax Inspectors, Inspectors and Tax Support Agents of the Municipality of São Paulo (Savim), which represents the category.

After the report contacted the municipality’s Secretariat of Subprefectures (SMSub), the original publication underwent changes. It was found that the words “are passing”, which implied that the training was already underway, was replaced by “passarão” from at least last Wednesday (10). Understand the case

The competition for municipal posture inspector – a position responsible for various types of inspection in the city – was opened in May last year and approved in February this year. According to the notice, the city hall would have one year to call the successful candidates after the result was approved, with a possible extension of up to another year. In other words, the administration had until, at most, February 2026 to call those approved.

Regarding the announcement by the city hall that new inspectors would be undergoing training, the president of Savim, Mario Roberto Fortunato, went so far as to classify the city hall’s publication as “fake news” and confirmed that the training could only take place, theoretically, after the signing of the Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) authorizing the appointment.

Municipal Tax Inspectors

This is the first posture inspector competition in 21 years. The last time was in 2002, during Marta Suplicy’s administration, when workers were still officially appointed as “inspection agents”.

The category works to guide and monitor municipal regulations related to the Building, Zoning and Supply Code, in addition to being responsible for supervising civil construction works, collecting permissions such as installation and operating licenses.

According to the SMSub press office, today there are 325 servers in this category in São Paulo. The category’s union states that there are less than 300 employees working, as there were workers who have already retired or left their positions for other reasons.

Employee deficit

In 1986, when the position was created in the municipality, there were around 1,200 vacancies, which at the time were not completely filled. This is the number that the union considers ideal to cover the deficit of inspectors in São Paulo. In 2018, when the process to make the competition viable began, the idea was that 350 vacancies would be created.

Now, candidates who attend the city hall call and undergo examination must be distributed into positions according to the availability of vacancies in the 32 sub-prefectures in São Paulo.

O Brazil in fact contacted SMSub again after calling those approved in the inspector competition. After a phone call between the two parties, the report was waiting for an official response via email, which did not happen until this article was written. The space remains open for updating with the advice of the city hall.
