“Do you know Lee Yoon-hee?”… College student daughter disappeared 18 years ago, elderly parents complain

The parents of Lee Yun-hee (then 29 years old), who disappeared near Chonbuk National University in 2006, stood in front of reporters on the 16th.

The father, Lee Dong-se (87), and the mother, Song Hwa-ja (84), held a press conference in front of the Jeonbuk Police Agency on this day and said with difficulty, “I don’t even have the energy to wait for my daughter anymore, but I came here with the feeling that this was the last time.”

Mr. Lee, wearing a yellow T-shirt with the phrase ‘Do you know Lee Yun-hee?’ said, “I don’t have much time left to live. I turned 87 this year, so if my youngest daughter were still alive, she would also be 47.”

He said, “It’s been 18 years since my daughter disappeared, so I’ve done enough. Is it right for me to give up on finding my daughter?” He said, “Is it right for me to give up on finding my daughter?” and “Is it right for me to give up on finding my daughter so shamelessly, putting the investigation on the back burner and just folding my arms and refusing requests for information disclosure?” “Is this the police’s job?” he asked.

On this day, Mr. Lee pointed out in detail the suspicions of the police’s poor investigation at the time of the disappearance and appealed to the media to participate in uncovering the truth of the case.

According to Lee and others, Yoon-hee went missing on June 6, 2006, after returning home to her studio apartment after the end-of-term party at the veterinary school.

However, the police did not properly preserve the scene of the disappearance and allowed Yoon-hee’s friends to clean the studio.

Also, on June 13th of that year, a week after her disappearance, someone accessed Yoon-hee’s computer, but the process could not be properly revealed.

In addition, Lee claims that even though some of Yoon-hee’s conversation with her older sister via Internet messenger and some of her search history before her disappearance were deleted from the computer, she did not receive a clear answer from the police who investigated the case.

Mr. Lee said, “In the current absurd situation, I have no time to worry about my age or estimate my future,” and added, “I will do everything I can to reveal the truth and find my daughter.”

He then cried, saying, “I want to end all of this while I’m still alive. I don’t want my other remaining children to live a heartbreaking life.”

Song, an ailing mother, occasionally wiped away tears with her hands as she listened to her husband’s complaints in front of reporters.

Mr. Lee announced on this day that he would file a complaint with the prosecution against the Jeonbuk Police Agency Chief and the Jeonju Deokjin Police Station Chief for dereliction of duty for failing to respond to his demands to find out the truth in 2019, around the time various suspicions surrounding his daughter’s disappearance arose.

Mr. Lee has already sued the police officials who participated in the investigation at the time of his daughter’s disappearance on charges of destruction of evidence.

The police held an information session after the press conference and said, “We will do our best to resolve the suspicions so that Yoon-hee’s parents can ease the burden on their hearts.”

A police official said, “We have been trying to find the missing person since the time of the incident, but the family is raising many questions,” and promised, “As 18 years have passed, there will be difficulties, but we will open up various possibilities and reexamine the case.”
