The future will be without coal. The Minister of the Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto Fratin thinks so. In a video message sent to the event dedicated to the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (Pniec), in the Queen’s Hall in the Chamber of Deputies in Rome, the minister explained: «Today’s commitment is to overturn the relationship between fossils and renewables moving towards a decarbonised future horizon.” «Decarbonising our activities is essential, it is a complex but obligatory path – continues Pichetto – but it must not be a traumatic step, which leaves behind more problems than solutions». «Italy – adds Pichetto – strengthens its approach on climate and energy security in line with the commitments undertaken at European and international level. The dialogue between trade unions, employers’ organisations, Parliament and experts is positive. This is the approach to follow. The Pniec is a precious tool with a time horizon that goes beyond the Legislature but has an immediate effect. It must be measurable. We must protect the environment, biodiversity and our businesses. We must not leave anyone behind, we cannot.”

And for the former Minister of the Environment Corrado Clini, now honorary president of the scientific committee of Ecomed 2024 Green Expo of the Mediterranean, «Our South, Sicily and Sardinia are a mine of resources, for the unique biodiversity in the Mediterranean, for great potential of energy from the sun and wind, for high quality and sustainable agricultural production, for the existing and potential synergies of the natural “bridge” between Europe, Africa and the nearby Middle East. And together for the great skills grown in the Universities and Research Centres, one of which, the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change in Lecce, was born out of my stubborn conviction to place the European Center of Excellence for Climate Research in the South ».

Ecomed 2024 will place emphasis, among the many topics covered, on sustainable development and the green energy transition, organized by the Scientific Technical Committee. Starting from Wednesday 17 Aprilat 9.30, the meeting entitled “From energy communities to sustainable hydrogen production: how energy is changing in Sicily”which will be followed at 2.30 pm by the conference entitled “From hydrogen to large infrastructures: how the Engineering Departments of Sicilian universities outline the future of our region“, while at the same time the meeting entitled “Offshore wind: the balance between energy production and protection of the sea”. On April 18th, from 2.30 pm, the meeting on the theme of “Energy efficiency” edited by A2A.

The Sicily Region, Department of Energy and Public Utility Services, organized the Energy Days as part of Ecomed.

Ecomed is organized in collaboration with the ERG Group and is a primary independent operator of clean energy from renewable sources, present in nine countries at European level. The first onshore wind operator in Italy, among the top ten in Europe, the Group is also active in the production of energy from solar sources, where it is among the top ten operators in Italy, and in the battery storage sector.
