But it was understandable that they were worried and scarred as they were by the years of lead, to the point that the mere thought that we could get into trouble made them shudder. Finally in the squares there was no shooting, no protesting, but people dancing, meeting and having fun and we had permission to do so. Better carefree than committed, given that commitment and social participation seemed to have resulted in violent protest and terrorism.”

The actor talks about a generation that interpreted democracy as an acquired right and that did not need further demands, other battles. But he took institutional truths as good ones, accepting consumerism, neoliberalism, for the sake of a quiet life.

We parents and the new generations

We consider them too individualistic, too connected, too irresponsible, too… young to understand. We often barricade ourselves behind “my time”, forgetting that current society is not only our work but also the gift we leave to the men and women of tomorrow.
