Former Chairman of the Korean Medical Association: “We created a political force to resist wrong government policies such as increasing the number of medical schools.”

“We will create a political force… “I have a plan to switch political parties if necessary.”

Noh Hwan-gyu, former president of the Korean Medical Association, announced in the early morning of the 14th that he would create a political force centered on scientists, science and engineering, doctors, and lawyers to resist government policies that are judged to be wrong, such as increasing the number of medical schools.

Previously, former Chairman Roh repeatedly criticized the government’s policy of increasing the number of medical students by 2,000, saying, ‘I cannot shake the thought that the leaders of the liberal arts department are ruining the country that the people of the science department helped revive.’

Former Chairman Roh posted on his social networking service (SNS) on this day, “I want to create a political force centered on those who pursue the truth (scientists, people in science and engineering, doctors and lawyers). I picked up the flag. “I heard that, but there will be someone else who will erect it,” he said.

He added, “If necessary, we have plans to convert to a political party. I am confident that if the only politics that has refused development until the end achieves development, it will become a better country to live in.”

The organization that former Chairman Roh mentioned is called the Science Truth Association (tentative name, Gwajinyeon), and is currently accepting membership applications online.

Regarding the formation of this coalition, he said, “Civic groups, KAIST professors, etc. said, ‘Only doctors can resist the government’s wrong policies.'” “I was very shocked when I saw it,” he said.

He posted a second post this morning, appealing for membership in Gwajinyeon. Former Chairman Noh explained, “The current plan is to start with the core by creating an organization of about 20 people and 1,000 people who think together in various fields (nuclear energy, semiconductors, education, law, medicine, etc.).”

He continued, “Rather than thinking that someone else will do it, when I think and act that I should do it, only then will the country I want become possible.”

Former Chairman Roh made this statement on his Facebook page on the 6th by sharing an article by Professor Emeritus Won-yong Seong of Seoul National University’s Department of Electrical and Information Engineering titled, ‘It’s more important than increasing the number of doctors.’

Professor Seong argued that considering the problem of low birth rates, increasing the number of medical schools should be carefully considered, and that with the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and medical technology, the current medical workforce can overcome the wave of aging.

In response to this, former Chairman Roh said, “This is a famous statement that summarizes the problem to its core,” and defined the increase in medical schools by 2,000 students as a “medical malpractice situation.”

He continued, “I am very sorry for causing a division, but these days, it is difficult to erase the thought that the leaders of the liberal arts and science department are ruining the country that the people of the science department stepped up to revive.”

Former Chairman Roh mentioned the names of former President Moon Jae-in, President Yoon Seok-yeol, Democratic Party of Korea leader Lee Jae-myung, and People Power Party Emergency Response Committee Chairman Han Dong-hoon, citing as examples the fact that they each had a background as a lawyer or prosecutor.

Regarding President Yoon and Chairman Han, he also mentioned, “I once supported them,” and “I was once a fan.”

Previously, after the policy to increase the number of medical schools was finalized, former Chairman Roh incited public outrage by saying, “The government cannot defeat doctors.” Since then, he has been under police investigation on charges of encouraging group action among medical residents.

Regarding the government’s decision to temporarily suspend the license suspension of non-returning residents, the government criticized the decision, saying, “LOL, now I’m laughing” and “Didn’t they say they wouldn’t be able to punish residents?”
