Lee Min-chan, spokesperson for the People Power Party’s Central Election Committee, issued a comment on the 28th, saying, “Candidate Gong bought a multi-family house in a redevelopment area in Seongdong-gu, Seoul for 1.18 billion won in 2017,” adding, “If you look at the fact that it was all rented out, it was only for clear real estate speculation and not for actual residence.” “I can’t see it,” he criticized.

He continued, “What’s even more absurd is what happened four years later,” and “Candidate Gong gifted this house to his 22-year-old son, who is serving in the military, in 2021.” Spokesperson Lee responded directly, saying, “Looking at the hasty donation made a day before the designation of a land transaction permit zone, we cannot erase the suspicion that it was a ‘gift donation’ that avoided regulations.”

Spokesperson Lee also attacked, saying, “Candidate Gong’s explanation is even more absurd,” adding, “It is inconsistent with the fact that he bought it to live after retirement and then gave it away four years later.” At the same time, he shot back, “No citizen will believe the explanation that they did not know whether a land transaction permit zone was designated.”

Spokesperson Lee said, “Candidate Gong’s successful real estate speculation made his son in his 20s suddenly rich with around 3 billion won, but it left a great sense of deprivation for the 20s and 30s generation who watched it,” and added, “It turns out that the candidate who was praised by the Democratic Party as an expert in the real economy is involved in real estate speculation. “It’s a shame that he was an expert,” he said. He continued, “You can’t save the economy by being a real estate speculation expert. He raised his voice, saying, “Please judge the Democratic Party’s nomination without regard for the people.”

Candidate Kong issued a statement on this day, saying, “In 2017, while I was vice president of Hyundai Motor Company, I purchased a house in the Seongsu-dong redevelopment area to live in after retirement.” He added, “Afterwards, I donated a house to my children with the intention of giving them a house as they prepare for their future marriage.” “I thought I had to do it,” he explained. At the same time, he said, “I accept that the fact that I donated a house to a child serving in the military is not in line with the public’s standards,” and added, “I will behave more humbly and cautiously from now on.” However, Candidate Gong denied allegations of speculation and use of internal information. He explained, “The media said it was a speculative home purchase, but this is not true. This is because we did not purchase it by borrowing excessively for the purpose of profit.”

Lee Jun-seok, leader of the New Reform Party, who is competing with candidate Gong in Hwaseong-eul, criticized, saying, “I doubt that he is a representative of real estate speculation rather than a representative of the Korean economy.” He then sarcastically said, “My 22-year-old son, who is serving in the military, said he gave it to me a month before he was discharged, so it seems like it was a gift from discharge.” At the same time, he asked, “Does the 2030 that Candidate Gong speaks of mean by making his children the owner of a building worth 3 billion won without debt in his 20s?” and “What kind of educational philosophy can Candidate Gong, who is an example of a parent’s chance, be able to talk about in Dongtan, which is very interested in education? “Is that possible?” he said directly.
