Kaze: “Post dark is a very intimate record that tells me”

An intimate, personal project, entirely written by an all-round artist like Kaze (born Paola Gioia Kaze Formisano, born in Nairobi, Kenya, 28 years ago) and co-produced by Wolfgang and Plastica. “Post Dark”, fresh off the press, has 10 tracks in which Kaze, on her first album, takes the listener by the hand and invites him to participate in a night of partying, involving him at every moment.
Kaze to dance all night
A mix of indie-pop songs, for the “pre-evening”, club pieces, which evoke the chaos and energy of the party, and ballads, to listen to when the night comes to an end. The music of Kaze, the new promise of Italian pop, is a kaleidoscope of colours, words, shapes and suggestions. Leading the way to the album: “Amplesso (intro)”, a very sensual piece, in which Kaze’s velvety and seductive voice tells of a relationship made of carnality and passion, born from a chance encounter.
Kaze, how would you define your work?
«A very intimate and personal album, I would say».
How it was born After dark
«From the need to vent, express aspects of my personality and to be able to say things that I don’t usually say».
Kaze was the spokesperson for Italy at the last Eurovision and walked the red carpet at Venice 80. In which role do you feel most comfortable?
«I feel comfortable when I perform in general. While very crowded social situations make me uncomfortable.”
Born in Nairobi (Kenya) to a Burundian mother and Neapolitan father. What did he get from one and the other?
«From my mother: courage. And from my father: determination.”
Dreaming of Mahmood
Who would you like to collaborate with if you had the choice?
«With Mahmood, I respect him a lot. In cinema I don’t have any particular names, but I certainly learn a lot by watching; therefore, as in Call My Agent I would like to have enormous talents close by to “steal” from with my eyes. In fashion there are many brands that I respect and that intrigue me, I like to collaborate with young and innovative brands.”
A project?
«I’m too superstitious to say it. In general, however, I think I want to continue doing what I like, with increasingly higher goals.”
