The police are investigating whether there are any suspicions of violation of the ‘Act on Punishment of Serious Accidents, etc.’ (Serious Accident Punishment Act) in relation to the bungee jumping safety accident within a sports experience facility that occurred at Starfield, a shopping complex located in Anseong-si, Gyeonggi-do on the 26th of last month.

According to the Serious Disaster Punishment Act, if one or more people die or more than 10 people are injured requiring treatment for more than two months due to a management defect in a public facility, it is considered a serious civil disaster.

The police are focusing on investigating whether Smob is a public use facility as defined in the Central Crimes Act.

If the Central Punishment Act is applied, the operator of Smob, who is responsible for the safety management of the relevant ride, may also be subject to criminal punishment. However, as the subject will be determined only after the exact circumstances of this incident are identified and related laws are confirmed, nothing has been clearly decided yet. does not exist.

The police plan to investigate the contract between Starfield Anseong and Smob to determine whether Starfield is responsible for negligence in safety management.

There is an opinion that Starfield can also be punished when considering the law, so attention is focused on the future actions of the police.

The police criminally booked Smob’s 20-year-old security guard who was working at the time of the accident on charges of occupational negligence manslaughter, and 19 people, including Smob’s representative, store manager, and service company officials, were summoned and interrogated one after another.

This safety guard did not have safety-related certifications, and during police investigation, he stated that he accidentally did not attach the safety ring that connects his body to the rope.
