Mr. Kim received a request from Mr. A, whom he met through an acquaintance, to introduce him to the police in charge of his business and criminal cases, and in return for granting the request, he received a bribe worth 770 million won from June 2020 to February of last year. is suspected of receiving.

It was found that Mr. Kim received money and valuables by using a credit card in Mr. A’s name or using the financial accounts of Mr. B and Mr. C. During the investigation by the Corruption Investigation Office, Mr. Kim admitted to using a credit card in Mr. A’s name, and the amount was confirmed to be over 100 million won. It was found that the amount received by Mr. Kim through accounts in the names of Mr. B and Mr. C was more than 600 million won. Through nine rounds of account tracing, the Corruption Investigation Office reportedly discovered that the account in Mr. B’s name was a borrowed-name account belonging to Mr. Kim, and discovered that Mr. C, an acquaintance who lent the borrowed-name account to Mr. Kim, was deeply involved in various irregularities.

Initially, the Corruption Investigation Office discovered Mr. Kim’s suspicions while investigating the bribery case of Daewoo Industrial Development Chairman Lee Sang-young in May last year. Mr. Kim is also accused of receiving a promise of 300 million won worth of money and valuables from Chairman Lee in exchange for suppressing the police investigation, and receiving 120 million won of this amount. The Corruption Investigation Office officially registered Mr. Kim’s charges as a mutual aid case on July 3 of the same year and began a full-scale investigation by seizing and searching Mr. Kim’s residence on the 12th of the same month.

The Corruption Investigation Office requested an arrest warrant for Mr. Kim on August 2 and December 7 last year, but the court dismissed the arrest warrant both times. At the time, the court stated, “It appears that most of the suspect’s receipt of money has been explained,” but “there is still room for dispute based on relevant legal principles as to whether the money in question constitutes a bribe in the name of arrangement, which is the main charge.”

On this day, the Corruption Investigation Office said, “At the time of requesting the second arrest warrant for Mr. Kim, the court also acknowledged that most of the facts of Mr. Kim’s receipt of money had been proven,” and “Based on the forensic contents of the mobile phone messages between Mr. Kim and Mr. “It has been proven that there was a mediation agreement regarding his illegal funeral business and the provision of business and investigative convenience,” he explained.
