Summary. He is at the head of an army of mercenaries. Evgueni Prigojine, the leader of the paramilitary group Wagner, long remained in the shadows, now leads this militia openly in the service of Vladimir Putin. Since the creation of Wagner in 2014, this former “chef” of the Kremlin, has deployed his unofficial troops in Crimea, in Africa and today on the Ukrainian front.
A master of disinformation and a ruthless warlord, Yevgueni Prigojine also intends to serve his own interests. As the Ukrainian conflict gets bogged down, the 61-year-old does not hesitate to openly criticize the Russian general staff.
For Code source, Paul Gogo, Moscow correspondent for Ouest-France and Le Parisien, retraces the career of Evgueni Prigojine.
