Abu Dhabi witnesses the El Clásico between Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal in the Diriyah Super Cup final

Today, Thursday, the eyes of Saudi football fans are directed towards the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in the Emirati capital, Abu Dhabi, which will host the final match and the El Clásico summit for the Diriyah Saudi Super Cup 2024, between the Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal teams.
Al-Ittihad had advanced to the Super Final, after defeating Al-Wahda by two goals to one, while Al-Hilal reserved its seat after defeating Al-Nasr also by two goals to one, in two semi-final matches that were held on the 8th of this April.
Al-Ittihad’s participation in this edition comes after it was crowned champion of the Saudi Professional League 2022-2023, and it hopes to achieve the second Super Cup after the edition it achieved in 2022. As for Al-Hilal, its participation is as champion of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup 2022-2023, and it seeks to achieve the Fourth Super Cup after achieving 3 copies in the years 2015 and 2018 and 2021.
It is noteworthy that the first edition of the Saudi Super Cup was held in 2013 and the Al-Fateh team was crowned with it after defeating its counterpart Al-Ittihad by three to two goals, and in 2014 the Al-Nasr team was crowned with the second edition after defeating Al-Shabab on penalties 4-3, and in 2015 it was held for the first time outside the Kingdom, specifically in Loftus Road Stadium in the British capital, London. Al-Hilal won the cup by defeating Al-Nasr by one goal for nothing. In the 2016 edition in London, for the second time in a row, Al-Ahly achieved the Super Cup by defeating Al-Hilal on penalties 4-3.
In the 2018 edition in London, Al Hilal was able to achieve its second title after defeating its counterpart Al-Ittihad by two goals to one, while the 2019 edition in Jeddah went to the Al-Nasr team after defeating Al-Taawoun on penalties 5-4, and in 2020 in Riyadh, Al-Nasr was able to crown the title after winning it. Al-Hilal won by three goals to nothing, and in 2021, Al-Hilal won the Super Cup when it faced Al-Faisaly and won on penalties, and in 2022-2023 the tournament witnessed a development and change in its system to become with the participation of four clubs, namely the Saudi League champion and runner-up, in addition to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup champion and runner-up, The first edition after the change brought together the champion of the Saudi League, Al-Hilal, runner-up, Al-Ittihad, the champion of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup, and the third-placed team in the league, Al-Nassr. Al-Ittihad was able to achieve its first Super Cup title after defeating its counterpart, Al-Fayha, with two goals.
