Accused of rape, businessman Rodrigo Carvalheira

Businessman Rodrigo Carvalheira, arrested in Recife accused of assaulting women and rape, planned to run for Recife councilor this year. The accusations are investigated by the Civil Police of Pernambuco (PCPE).
Carvalheira was arrested last Thursday (11). The Civil Police confirmed that he is being investigated for crimes against women, however, they said they could not disclose details, as the work is taking place under judicial secrecy.
According to the Pernambuco Diary, Carvalheira would have been denounced by at least three women, who would have said that they were doped with drugs and then abused. In one of the cases, the victim in question was a minor.
One of the complainants, according to the newspaper, stated that the businessman forcibly put a pill in her mouth and that, later, she woke up without remembering what had happened to the businessman on her body.
Carvalheira’s defense claims that he is innocent and the arrest is arbitrary, and would have happened for political reasons. According to one of the lawyers who works for the businessman, the complainants are “three friends”, who attend parties organized by him.
“The technical defense of businessman Rodrigo Cavalheira has made it public to clarify that Rodrigo’s arrest caused surprise and strangeness for everyone. The facts narrated are serious, but based solely on the opinion of the police authority and the collection of statements”, said a statement issued by the defense, which also states that he made himself available for clarification.
Pre-candidate
On social media, amidst posts that showed a routine of parties and luxury items, Carvalheira placed himself as a pre-candidate for a seat in the Recife City Council for the former PTB, which merged with Patriota to found the PRD.
Owner of real estate companies, he served as Secretary of Tourism for the city of São José da Coroa Grande, on the coast of Pernambuco. He was also president of the PTB’s Pernambuco directory before the merger. The PRD reported that the businessman was expelled from the party’s ranks.
