Uber announced, this Tuesday, that its headquarters in Lisbon is being searched, and assured that the electronic platform “is not the entity targeted”.
Uber’s official source, cited by Lusa, confirmed “the investigations at our facilities” but clarified that “Uber is not the entity targeted.”
We are collaborating with the authorities and providing all requested information”, he added.
At the heart of the investigations are alleged illegalities committed by home meal delivery companies, through Uber, which, as the authorities suspect, will have harmed the State by 28 million.
The Social Security Institute, in a statement, states that a mixed team, which also includes the Tax and Customs Authority (AT), and other bodies, carried out, this Tuesday, an operation, focused on the “pursuit of criminal tax offenses in the sector of home meal distribution companies”.
It is estimated that, to date, this scheme has resulted in the subtraction of 28 million euros in VAT. To this value must be added the value corresponding to Social Security contributions.
CNN Portugal reports that access to the floor, where the company’s servers are located, was closed to employees. The television station also states that inspectors are investigating commercial information, and that the investigation may be linked to the fleet of couriers linked to Uber Eats, which puts drivers in contact with restaurants.
