Carnival 2023: Firefighters veto rehearsals at Sapucaí, in RJ – 01/28/2023 – Daily life

The Rio de Janeiro Fire Department prohibited technical rehearsals for the samba schools at Marquês de Sapucaí after an inspection found security problems at the Sambódromo.

According to a note from the corporation, an inspection carried out on Friday night (27) found defects in the fire hydrant activation devices in three sectors of the avenue and did not find connectors and hoses anywhere.

“After the inspection, the firefighters issued a notification not authorizing the technical tests for Carnival 2023 to be carried out. The veto is immediate because the track does not have the minimum safety conditions”, says the statement.

Also according to the agency, a new inspection will be carried out this Saturday (28) to verify if the flaws have been corrected. If that’s the case, rehearsals scheduled for the weekend will be released.

This Saturday, the passage through the avenue of the schools of the Golden Series was scheduled: União de Jacarepaguá, Acadêmicos de Vigário Geral, Unidos de Padre Miguel and Unidos Porto da Pedra. On Sunday (29), Mocidade Independente and Mangueira would come.

Questioned, the Independent League of Samba Schools in Rio (Liesa), responsible for the conditions of the Sambadrome, said that the hoses are usually only placed on the day of the rehearsals because thefts are common.

He also said that he has already made the necessary corrections and is waiting for the new inspection to release the firefighters. Riotur (city hall tourism company that grants the space), in turn, stated that the matter should be addressed to Liesa.

The inspection of firefighters took place after a court decision, as published by the G1 portal and confirmed by the corporation. On Friday afternoon, a lawyer filed a class action asking that the rehearsals be banned due to the lack of documentation submitted to the agency.

Judge Mirela Erbisti, from the 3rd Public Treasury Court of RJ, determined that all documents necessary for the operation of the Sambódromo were presented within 24 hours and communicated the Military Police and the Fire Department, which then carried out the inspection and proved the problems. .

Riotur and the corporation had signed a Conduct Adjustment Term (TAC) to regularize the documentation of Marquês de Sapucaí. The papers, however, had not been delivered until early Friday night.

Last Thursday (26), the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro indicted five people for the intentional homicide of an 11-year-old girl who was pressed by a float in the dispersal of a Sapucaí parade, in April last year. Raquel Antunes da Silva had a leg amputated and died two days later.
