China supports peace conference recognized by Ukraine and Russia

This Tuesday, the Chinese President conveyed to the German Chancellor Beijing’s support for the convening of an international peace conference recognized by Russia and Ukraine and with the participation of all parties.

“China encourages all efforts leading to a peaceful resolution of the crisis and supports the timely convening of an international peace conference recognized by Russia and Ukraine with the participation of all parties,” said Xi Jinping in a meeting with Olaf Scholz in Beijing.

In a statement, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that the two leaders agreed on the need to “support the principles of the United Nations and oppose the use of nuclear weapons or attacks against peaceful targets or nuclear facilities”.

According to the note, Xi and Scholz agreed on the need to “adequately resolve food security issues” and “respect international humanitarian law”.

The Chinese President also said that “all parties must work together to restore peace as quickly as possible” and that “peace and stability must be pursued and selfish interests must be put aside”.

According to the Chinese leader, the “situation must be contained and no more fuel should be added to the fire, conditions must be created so that peace can be reestablished and the conflict can be prevented from worsening further. We also have to reduce its negative impact on the world economy.”

Xi Jinping stressed that “China is neither a party nor a participant in these crises” and that “it has tried to promote peace talks in its own way”, adding that it wants to maintain “cooperation with all parties, including Germany, in this regard ”.

China has called for respect for the “territorial integrity of all countries”, including Ukraine, and attention to “the legitimate concerns of all countries”, referring to Russia.

One of Scholz’s priorities, who ends a three-day visit to the Asian country today, was to highlight to Beijing the importance of China as a mediator in conflicts such as the war in Ukraine.
