“The Permanent Council…resolves to strongly condemn the intrusion into the facilities of the Embassy of Mexico in Ecuador and the acts of violence carried out against the integrity and dignity of the diplomatic personnel of the Mission,” says the draft resolution. put into consideration.
In the draft resolution that was submitted to informal consultations today, the Colombian Government proposes that the 32 current members of the organization reaffirm respect for the privileges and immunities of diplomatic personnel after Mexico reported mistreatment of its personnel during the incursion.
Within its resolutions, the draft resolution calls for respect for the 1954 Diplomatic Asylum Convention, which Ecuador claims that Mexico violated by granting asylum to former vice president Jorge Glas, who has two sentences for common crime and who was removed from the Embassy on Friday.
This Tuesday, the Permanent Council of the OAS held an initial session in which Vice Chancellor Alejandro Dávalos participated, in which he defended the actions of the Ecuadorian Government and in which the Permanent Mission of Mexico did not participate without specifying the reasons for not attending.
