Did you know that when you stop learning, your brain starts to age?

One way to constantly challenge our brain and keep it young is to never stop learning, find new passions or hobbies, and adopt a lifestyle that promotes brain health.

Getting older does NOT mean that your cognitive function has to deteriorate; actually, while we are alive, each new dawn we add one more day to our lives. The older we get, the more seriously we need to take our brain health, as advancing age is a risk factor for memory problems and dementia.

According to scientific studies published in the United States, half of people over the age of 85 will receive a diagnosis of some type of dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.

Daily care of our brain is essential to keep it young and active regardless of physical age.

If you spend a lot of time in an armchair watching television, you are promoting your own aging.

If you want to keep your brain healthy and your memory sharp, it’s important to stay mentally and physically active.

Some suggestions to keep your brain healthy and fit are:

-Look for new challenges that mentally stimulate you and take you out of your comfort zone.

-Staying physically active, muscle-strengthening training is essential for brain health.

-Learn new skills, take classes, enroll in diploma courses, learn a new language to stimulate your mind and open up to new cultures.

-Learn to play a musical instrument to exercise your brain creatively, dancing stimulates coordination.

-Practice sports and games that stimulate the mind such as table tennis, ping-pong.

Technology is advancing rapidly and challenges us to push our limits. We cannot be left behind, it is crucial to constantly learn, adapt, grow and take advantage of opportunities, however, it is important to find balance and avoid mental exhaustion.

Now more than ever, our physical, mental and emotional health can be compromised if we do not take care of all aspects of our lives in an integral way.

Fulfilled people invest time in activities that nourish their mind and spirit. They spend time reading to expand their knowledge, cultivate meaningful relationships with friends and family, and find time for a hobby that sparks their creativity. These practices allow them to generate new ideas, stay motivated, and attract opportunities into their lives.

Spend at least 30 minutes a day learning something new and 5-11 minutes practicing a mindful breathing technique that protects your brain from mental burnout.

When it’s time to retire, you should always keep learning so your brain doesn’t age and you don’t become one of the statistically 50% destined to suffer from dementia or Alzheimer’s.

I share this Naam Square Breathing that works on the brain and gives peace of mind.

1.- Get in a comfortable position, sitting with a straight spine.

2.- Place your hands at shoulder height, palms facing forward.

3.- Bring your index and middle fingers together, and your ring and little fingers. Separate the middle and ring fingers, making a V-shaped gesture between them, and also extend the thumb, as shown in the illustration.

4.- Close your eyes and direct your gaze towards the tip of the nose.

5.- Bring your attention to your breath and begin to inhale slowly through your nose, dividing the inhalation into 4 equal segments.

6.- Hold your breath for 4 counts.

7.- Exhale slowly and completely through the nose, dividing the exhalation into 4 equal segments.

8.- Stay out of breath for 4 counts, maintaining a sense of calm.

9.- Continue this segmented breathing pattern for 3 to 11 minutes, allowing your breath to flow smoothly and rhythmically.

As you practice, you can gradually increase the duration, always keeping the same time on each segment. Example: 8:8:8:8 finding a comfortable and sustainable rhythm for you.

Note: If you have blood pressure problems or are pregnant, we recommend taking long, deep breaths without holding your breath or running out of breath.

You should never practice this breathing technique while you are driving.

Love your brain! When your brain works well, you work well.
