According to the budget, the city of Dillingen’s debts could rise to 26.5 million euros this year. But it won’t be that dramatic.
The turning point in Dillinger’s financial situation continues. Just six years ago, the district town had almost no debt, but had seven million euros in reserve. The city’s budget for 2024, which has now been unanimously approved, stipulates that the debt at the end of the year could be 26.5 million euros – with reserves of 5.9 million euros. But this is only an external framework, the worst case, so to speak. It won’t be that bad. 2023 also came Dillingen came out of the financial year much better than planned. According to the budget, the debt was supposed to increase by 9.3 million euros, but in the end it was around two million.
Investments must be examined in terms of their necessity
Nevertheless: The financial leeway is also becoming narrower for Dillingen. Therefore, all investments must be assessed based on their necessity. The Dillinger city council must be attested to the fact that it is aware of this responsibility. In the past 16 years, the city’s assets have grown by 125 million euros. A number that does not appear in cameralistic budgeting. The committee does not invest in prestige projects; it focuses on education, childcare and urban development. The 2024 budget once again provides examples of this. The expansions and renovations of the primary schools in Schretzheim and Kicklingen as well as the new construction of the Steinheim kindergarten are the outstanding investments. The construction of the new Dillinger middle school alone cost 25 million euros, more than the city currently owes.
