Footballer Daniel Esteves was convicted of involvement in sports betting, after last year referee André Baltasar was also sanctioned by the Disciplinary Council (CD) of the Portuguese Football Federation
The 29-year-old player, currently without a club, was sentenced to a one-year suspension for “participation in sports betting, including those related to official games in which he participated”.
The bets date back to the 2021/22 season, when Daniel Esteves played for Marinhense, in Series D of the Portuguese Championship.
Daniel Esteves’ betting list includes two Marinhense games, in which the footballer bet on the victory of his team, where he was a starter, with Vitória de Cernache and Praiense, according to the ruling of the Disciplinary Council, cited by the Lusa agency .
“Since the beginning of the 2021/2022 sports season, the defendant Daniel Esteves had a conflictual relationship with his teammates and the coach, and it was public, in the locker room, that that athlete bet at bookmakers, as he often asked , lent money to his teammates to top up his account on the betting platform and did not return the money”, it further reads.
It is worth remembering that in the last year, some similar cases were known abroad, some of which made headlines, such as the Englishman Ivan Toney, from Brentford, from the Premier League, or Sandro Tonali, from Newcastle, and Nicolò Fagioli, from Juventus. .
