Minister Fernando Haddad (Finance) stated this Monday (8) that the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) will send tax reform regulation projects to the National Congress next week.
The statement was given by the head of the economic team after meeting with the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), and other leaders.
“We are committed to forwarding complementary tax reform laws next week. [proposta] it is already closed at the Treasury, but there is a process to be carried out at the Civil House, these are procedures, they are not mere protocols, it will reach the President of the Republic, who will sign the message. We are committed that it will arrive in Congress next week”, stated the minister.
As established by the PEC (proposed amendment to the Constitution) of tax reform, the deadline for regulatory proposals to be sent to Congress is 180 days after promulgation.
“We discussed here the possibility of two complementary bills to cover the entire framework that regulates the constitutional amendment,” added Haddad.
The Ministry of Finance created 19 working groups to close the projects and had already signaled to the President of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), that he would work to send the texts by the end of the first half of April.
Haddad also spoke of a “concentrated effort in April and May” to clear the legislative agenda, citing “what was left” to vote in 2023 in addition to the microeconomic agenda presented by the government, which rescued projects that were already being processed in Congress.
