The head of the Journalists Syndicate, journalist and writer, Khaled Al-Balshi, asked those attending the ceremony honoring exemplary mothers of female journalists to stand for a minute in tribute and respect to the Palestinian martyrs and the sacrifices of Palestinian women.

Al-Balshi said: “Today we celebrate the woman activist and partner in all roles, saluting every fellow journalist who tries and pays the price more than once for the sake of her message.”

He added: “Today, Egyptian women celebrate the anniversary of the fall of Habiba Khalil, the first martyr who participated in the 1919 Revolution march.”

The head of the Journalists Syndicate paid tribute to Sudanese women who are paying high prices in the ongoing civil war there.

Doaa Al-Najjar, a member of the Journalists Syndicate Council and rapporteur of the Women’s Committee, announced that the Women’s Committee’s celebration to honor models of giving and sacrifices from among female journalist colleagues in press institutions and examples of the mothers of the nation’s righteous martyrs and Palestinian women, symbols of steadfastness and struggle, will be held under the patronage of the Minister of Social Solidarity, Dr. Nevin Al-Qabbaj.

Al-Najjar added that the colleagues who were selected by the institutions will be presented with symbolic prizes, recalling that the celebration comes as a new tradition for the committee without its interference in the selection, explaining that the invitation was sent to press institutions so that each institution nominates one colleague who is an example of an ideal mother known for her sacrifice, giving, and good reputation. He sent an official letter detailing the rationale for the selection, which received a great response and welcome, and all the letters praised the initiative in spreading feelings of love and praise and creating a family atmosphere among colleagues.

She explained that the choices of the various press institutions were as follows: Safaa Essam El-Din from “Al-Shorouk” newspaper, Amal Shaker from “Al-Ahram,” Iman Rashed from “Al-Akhbar,” Jamalat Younis from “Al-Jumhuriya,” Raja Abu Shahba from “Middle East News Agency,” Ibtihal Ghaith from “Dar Al-Maaref,” and Maha Omran from “Rose Al-Youssef.” And Aida Mohassab, Radio and Television Magazine.

The list included Hanan Othman “Al-Wafd,” Nima Abu Zeid “Youm Al-Sabea,” Safaa Al-Bahar “The Workers,” Fatima Al-Koumi “The Week,” Thanaa Al-Karrass “Veto,” Iman Kamal “Al-Fajr,” Samia Sidhoum “Watani,” and Suhair Ghaleb “Al-Bawaba News.” Manal Al-Qadi, “Voice of the Nation,” Aya Hosni, “Al-Dustour,” and Fatima Hashem, “Al-Masry Al-Youm.”

The rapporteur of the Women’s Committee indicated that the ceremony includes honoring the great journalist, Sanaa El-Beisi, as a pioneer of women’s journalism, the founder of Half the World magazine, and a former member of the Journalists Syndicate Council, as well as honoring the educator of generations, Dr. Awatif Abdel Rahman, professor of journalism at the Faculty of Mass Communication, Cairo University, and one of the former members of the Syndicate Council. Al-Najjar confirmed that honoring will also include the mothers of the nation’s righteous martyrs, makers of men and heroes, and those who sacrificed their lives in ransom for our dear homeland, including Mrs. Zainab, the mother of the heroic martyr Raed Muhammad Salah Ismail, one of the heroes of the Barth Epic and the 103rd Thunderbolt Battalion in North Sinai, and Suzan Abdel Majeed, the mother of the heroic martyr, captain of the Islam Mashhour police. He was martyred in the terrorist attack on police forces on Al-Wahat Road in 2017.

She explained that in honor of the role of Palestinian women, the icon of steadfastness, sacrifice, and struggle, Amal Al-Agha, President of the General Union of Palestinian Women in Egypt, Maryam Abu Daqqa, the Palestinian fighter and guerrilla fighter, and Maysoon Shaath, the Palestinian freedom fighter and former member of the General Secretariat of the Palestinian Women’s Union in Cairo, will be honored.
