Iranian Foreign Minister meets with Palestinian Islamic Jihad leader

The Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hosein Amir Abdolahian, and the Secretary General of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Ziad Najalah, met, this Saturday, in Tehran, in another Iran’s demonstration of support for the Palestinian cause.

“We know that the Iranian people have supported the Palestinian people since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, and this issue is no secret to anyone, and Iran has paid the price with sanctions,” the Palestinian official said, in a brief press conference after his meeting with Abdolahian, Borna news agency reported.

On Thursday, Najalah met with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, President Ebrahim Raisi and Parliament Speaker Mohamad Baqer Qalibaf.

At these meetings, the Iranian officials once again reaffirmed their support for Palestinian Islamist movements and the Palestinian cause.

“The fact that the Zionist regime, with all its military equipment and the support of the cruel powers of the world, kills women and children proves that this regime is not capable of facing the forces of the Resistance and defeating them,” Khamenei stressed on Thursday on Friday, during his meeting with the leader of Islamic Jihad.

On Tuesday, the head of the political office of the Islamist movement Hamas, Ismail Haniye, was received in the Iranian capital and thanked Iran for its support for the resistance forces.

His visit came a day after the UN Security Council approved for the first time a resolution calling for a ceasefire in the war in the Gaza Strip, where more than 32,000 people have died.

The conflict broke out on October 7, after Palestinian forces attacked Israeli territory, killing around 1,200 people, in an attack they called “The Fall of Al Aqsa”, which was celebrated in Tehran with fireworks.

Iran is one of the main allies of the Palestinian movement Hamas and Islamic Jihad, and leads the so-called “Axis of Resistance” against Israel, formed by Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthi rebels, among others.
