KTL opens ‘Sacheon Branch’, a specialized center for calibration and testing in the aerospace field

The Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL) announced on the 16th that it opened the KTL Sacheon Branch and began full-scale operation at the GNU Science Park in Sacheon, Gyeongsangnam-do to strengthen corporate competitiveness through technical support for short-distance test evaluations such as equipment calibration for aerospace companies.

According to KTL, the government is making great efforts to help Korea leap forward as one of the world’s top five space powers amid competition for space supremacy among countries around the world.

We plan to invest 992.3 billion won this year alone in five major missions, including space security and space exploration.

At the launch ceremony of the space industry cluster last March, Korea expressed its intention to attract 100 trillion won in investment by 2045 and create more than 250,000 quality jobs in the space industry.

Sacheon City, a specialized area for aerospace, is doing its best to foster the aerospace sector as a national strategic industry with about 50 partners, including Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI).

Recently, in addition to the need to build various infrastructure for the opening of the Aerospace Administration, the demand for test evaluations from KAI and its partners has increased significantly due to the export order for the FA-50 light combat aircraft from Poland.

However, as an aerospace-specialized city, the reality is that even though most related manufacturing companies are concentrated there, it is experiencing many difficulties due to a lack of accredited calibration institutes.

In order to quickly respond to this government policy direction and the test and evaluation demand of aerospace companies in the Sacheon region, KTL plans to establish a branch office in Sacheon City, which is opened by the Aerospace Administration, and provide precise technical support services in a short distance.

The KTL Sacheon branch was built with two test rooms and an office (166㎡) on the first floor of Sacheon GNU Science Park, and about 20 types of cutting-edge facilities, including nut runner calibration equipment and weight pressure gauges, were built within the branch to support aerospace and aviation. It is a specialized center capable of calibration and test evaluation of industry-related equipment and parts.

The establishment of KTL’s Sacheon branch will enable quick and precise test and evaluation services through on-site visits by professional engineers.

This is expected to provide practical help in resolving difficulties faced by related companies, including minimizing product development schedules and contributing to quality improvement.

Above all, we plan to revitalize the local industry by providing timely support for calibration and test evaluation of aerospace measurement equipment that is practically necessary for KAI and its partners.

In addition, by moving into Gyeongsang National University’s Sacheon GNU Science Park, it is expected to lay the foundation for creating an industry-academia-research cluster and work together to foster professional manpower in the aerospace field.
