Representatives from the National Human Rights Council, the Brazilian Press Association and the National Human Rights Ombudsman have been in Florianópolis since Wednesday (10) to prepare a report on reports of an increase in neo-Nazi groups in Santa Catarina.
In total, 13 members are in the capital of Santa Catarina. The mission was approved at the 76th ordinary meeting of the National Human Rights Council, held in February, and signed by resolution last Tuesday (9).
As columnist Mônica Bergamo showed, the council contacted the UN (United Nations) to issue a warning about the increase in neo-Nazi movements in Brazil.
The national Human Rights Ombudsman, Luzia Cantal, says that the complaint presented by the Brazilian Press Association to the National Human Rights Council cites the proliferation of neo-Nazi and fascist activities in the country.
“The reports being raised here are absolutely appalling. The intention is to make a special report not only in Santa Catarina, but also in Brazil”, says Cantal. The final document must be sent to the justice system and competent bodies after further visits to other states.
The delegation also includes the National Human Rights Movement, the State Human Rights Council of Santa Catarina, the Movimento Humaniza Institute and the Federal University of Santa Catarina.
