Pacheco is invited by Lula to deliver Camões to Chico – 03/29/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

The President of the Federal Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), was invited by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to participate in the Camões Award ceremony for Chico Buarque. A self-confessed fan of the artist, the parliamentarian told interlocutors that he was “swayed” by the proposal.

Pacheco, however, is still analyzing his schedule to see if it will be possible to travel to Lisbon, where the ceremony will take place.

The award will be given four years after the singer, composer and writer was awarded the Camões, considered the highest distinction in the Portuguese language. In 2019, then-president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) refused to sign the document certifying the award.

The then president stated that the signature was not among his priorities and that he would do it on “December 31, 2026”, assuming that he would be re-elected in the 2022 election.

The award ceremony for Chico will take place in the Portuguese capital on April 25th. The date coincides with the anniversary of the Carnation Revolution and with the artist’s visit to the country, which will take the shows of the tour “Que Tal Um Samba?” for the cities of Lisbon and Porto.

In addition to Portugal, Lula will make an official trip to Spain in the second half of April. Before, he will go to China, where he should have left last Saturday (25) and canceled after receiving a diagnosis of pneumonia.
