Former PSD deputy Patrícia Dantas, who had been appointed deputy to the Minister of Finance, will not, after all, take on a role in Joaquim Miranda Sarmento’s office.
At issue is the fact that Patrícia Dantas is accused in the case of the former Associação Industrial do Minho (AIMinho), in which she is being tried for fraud in obtaining European funds.
“Following news published by the media, about a process that began in 2017 and is still taking place in the appropriate locations, without any judicial decision having been made on the same, Patrícia Dantas, maintaining the presumption of innocence that was imposes and after consideration, informed the Minister of State and Finance that he decided not to assume the role of deputy to the Ministry of Finance”, reads the statement issued this Tuesday by the guardianship.
The former social-democratic deputy is accused of participating in a situation of alleged fraud, carried out in a public company in the Autonomous region of Madeira, managed by Patrícia Dantas, which allegedly received funds from European funds, which the Public Ministry says were not applied.
In the trial, which began in 2022, Patrícia Dantas rejected the accusations and claimed that the funds were used for the purpose for which they were intended. She also denied that the company had issued false invoices.
