During February 2024, the ports supervised by the General Ports Authority “Mawani” achieved a growth in the number of incoming containers by 16.88%, reaching 226,672 containers, compared to 193,937 containers in the same period in the year 2023. They also achieved an increase in the volume of tonnages handled by 1.44%. To reach 23,381,835 tons, compared to 23,049,373 in the same month of 2023, which reflects the size of the efforts made to develop port infrastructure and provide the highest levels of logistical services.
The volumes of general cargo reached 830,641 tons, solid bulk goods 3,626,347 tons, and liquid bulk goods 12,586,815 tons, while the ports recorded an unloading rate of 899,293 heads of livestock, an increase of 166.67%, compared to 337,231 heads of livestock in the same period in 2023 AD.
Navigational traffic witnessed an increase of 1.57%, to reach 907 ships, compared to 893 ships in 2023, while the number of passengers recorded a decrease of 32.86%, to reach 67,754 passengers, compared to 100,907 passengers last year, while the number of cars decreased by 11.12%, to reach To 72,448 cars, compared to 81,510 cars in 2023.
In the same context, the number of handling containers reached 561,484 containers, a decrease of 9.85%, compared to 622,856 containers last year. Transshipment containers also decreased by 34.88% to reach 152,868 containers, compared to 234,762 containers during the year 2023. The number of outgoing containers also decreased by 6.29%. %, reaching 181,944 containers, compared to 194,158 containers last year.
It is noteworthy that King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam achieved a record for the highest monthly handling in its history, by handling 235,820 standard containers in February 2024, in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics, by consolidating the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics center and the hub of the meeting of the three continents.
