PSP arrests suspect of domestic violence who had an arsenal at home

In a statement, the PSP Lisbon Metropolitan Command announced that, through the Oeiras Police Division, it arrested a 37-year-old man on Thursday, as he was suspected of committing the crime of possession of prohibited weapons and domestic violence.

The detainee was presented to the competent Judicial Authority, during the 1st Judicial Interrogation, for the coercion measure to be applied to him, states the PSP.

The investigation began with a complaint of domestic violence in which the victim reported that she was being threatened with death by her ex-partner, says the PSP, adding that “the suspect, for several years, exercised psychological violence against the victim ” and always showed her weapons, threatening her that he could use them.

A house search was carried out and, among others, a 9mm firearm, a .22 firearm, a .32 revolver, an electric gun, an extendable baton, six bladed weapons and more than a hundred ammunition were seized.

The detainee was presented to the competent Judicial Authority, during the 1st Judicial Interrogation, for the coercive measure to be applied to him.

Also last week, the PSP’s Lisbon Metropolitan Command, through the Loures Police Division, arrested a 68-year-old man on Wednesday, as he was suspected of committing the crime of domestic violence and possession of a prohibited weapon.

The detainee was presented to the Judicial Court of the District of Lisbon North – Loures, with a view to being subjected to judicial interrogation, having been applied to the coercive measure prohibiting contact with the victim with control through means of electronic surveillance and prohibition on purchasing weapons.

In this case, the victim had formalized a criminal complaint with the PSP at the beginning of March, reporting death threats made by his ex-partner, after a shared experience of constant physical and psychological aggression, also stating that he was a carrier of illegal firearm.
