Silvia Poppovic is attacked and robbed in Higienópolis – 04/15/2024 – Daily life

Journalist and presenter Silvia Poppovic, 69, was attacked during a robbery on Sunday afternoon (14) in Higienópolis, a high-income neighborhood in the central region of the city of São Paulo. She was attacked while walking alone a few meters to the building where she lives, after having lunch at a friend’s apartment on the same street.

As she reported to Sheet, the attacker held her with a neck tie, kicked her legs to unbalance her and, with the journalist already on the ground, continued the strangulation. He ripped off a ring and, in an attempt to take off a bracelet, caused cuts to the presenter’s hand. “I was completely destroyed, all bloody, on the floor, it was a nightmare,” she said on Sunday night. “I thought he was going to bite my hand off.”

Silvia reported having tried to tell the man that he could take her cell phone. “I wanted him to stop squeezing my neck because I couldn’t breathe, but it didn’t help, I think he was in a hurry,” she says. “That’s when a car passed by and he got scared and ran away, so I got up and ran to my building.”

The presenter states that she will register the incident at the police station this Monday (15). “I haven’t registered it yet because I spent the afternoon taking care of my wounds, but the wounds that really hurt aren’t on the body, what hurts is this feeling of fragility.”

Six months ago, she had been the victim of another robbery, also in the neighborhood where she lives. While talking on her cell phone in a taxi, a man put part of his body through the partially open window to snatch the device from her hand. “He even hit me in the face with his cell phone,” recalls Silva.

Shortly after the incident, around 5:30 pm, the presenter posted a photo of her bloody hand on her social media.

With a career spanning more than 40 years, Silvia left broadcast TV about three years ago and is currently successful on the internet producing lifestyle content. On Instagram, the platform where she also reported the robbery, Silvia Poppovic has almost 850 thousand followers.

She said she hopes the repercussion of the case will lead to increased policing. “There is no police patrol, there is no security in a central neighborhood of São Paulo, imagine how unassisted people who live on the outskirts are”, she complains.

“I don’t want to give up the right to walk around the city, I don’t want to go around in an armored car, I’m a positive person who always had hope that things would get better, but it seems like they’re getting worse”, says the presenter.

When contacted by the report, the Public Security Secretariat under the administration of governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) had not returned until the publication of this text.
