State says it only spends 30 million euros on organizing World Youth Day

The financial responsibility of the State in the World Youth Day event that takes place between August 1 and 6 in Lisbon, can go up to 21.8 million euros, to which an additional 8.2 million euros can be added.

A total of 30 million euros excluding VAT, as it reverts to the State, clarifies the note released by the Office of the Deputy Minister and Parliamentary Affairs.

It notes that “in the scope of the requalification, environmental enhancement and enjoyment of the riverside area of ​​the Bobadela park, Infraestrutura de Portugal (IP) was awarded a contract for the displacement of the container terminal, in the amount of 8.2 million euros” .

The 21.8 million euros include sums related to a set of charges “with the mission unit, the acquisition of multimedia towers, sanitary facilities, television transmission, water supply, military bridge, promotion of the country abroad, command center and security, support center for the national and international press”, notes the ministry of Ana Catarina Mendes.

The statement also states that “the State will also participate through support, namely in the area of ​​health, safety, assistance and mobility.

World Youth Day is the biggest meeting of young Catholics from all over the world with the Pope that takes place in Lisbon in the riverside area of ​​Bobadela, between the 1st and 6th of August. 1.5 million people.

This week the costs of this event came to the fore after the amount to be paid for the construction of the stage altar in the Parque Tejo space was known: 4 million euros, plus VAT and another 1 million euros for foundations.
